Bloomfield, CT – The Williams Men's Golf team sits tied for 11th place after day one of the Bill Detrick Invitational hosted by Trinity College at Tumble Brook Country Club.
Wet weather and early spring conditions made for a difficult day at Tumble Brook. Low man of the day for the Ephs was first year
Jack Estrella, carding an impressive 3-over par 75 in the first round of the spring season. Estrella had a back and forth round all day, losing shots with bogeys and making them back with birdies. He hung in on the back nine in the rain to start off his spring season strong.
Coming in next for the Ephs were senior
Ben Sapovits and sophomore
Alex Moller, posting scores of 6-over par 78 and 7-over par 79, respectively. Both players battled all day long in the difficult conditions but faltered in the final stretch.
Rounding out the scoring for the Ephs was first year
Hunter Justice, finishing up with an 8-over par 80.
Eph head coach
Josh Hillman commented on the opening round of the spring: "It was a hard day out there today with the weather. It's always difficult these first few weeks of the spring in terms of conditions. I was happy with how the guys battled for the first half of the round, the back nine we definitely struggled. Jack put up a great round and it's always really encouraging to see a super solid score from a first year at this point in the season. We're looking forward to coming back out tomorrow and getting another go at this course. We know we can put up some good numbers here."
The Ephs tee it up again tomorrow morning at Tumble Brook Country Club.
