The Ephs claimed victory over the Eastern University Eagles in game one of the NCAA Division III Softball Tournament. After an early deficit, the Ephs pulled ahead in the third inning lead by a two-run homer by Justine Dunaway. In the circle, pitchers Sadie Leonard and Katie Blanch held Eastern's offense to one run with a combined 13 strikeouts. The Ephs now advance to the winner's bracket of the double-elimination tournament, building some early momentum in their postseason run.
Coach's Thoughts:
"Great team win and strong play on all sides of the ball. Exciting home run by Justine and we really passed the bat today," reflected Head Coach Kris Herman. "Obviously our pitchers were great and it's really fun to have the team mentality on the mound as well."
