Ephs Fall to Bowdoin in NESCAC Quarterfinals

Scores:

Williams 1, Bowdoin 4

Location: Brunswick, ME

Records: Williams 26-12; Bowdoin 21-18

The Short Story:

The No. 2 Seeded Ephs fell in the NESCAC Quarterfinals to No. 7 Seed Bowdoin in extra innings. Trailing by one for most of the game, Sydney Fleming came through in the bottom of the 7th with a clutch solo home run to tie it. Despite a stellar performance from pitcher, Sadie Leonard who recorded 14 strikeouts, Bowdoin broke through in the 9th to claim the win and advance.

Coach's Thoughts:

"We had a problem we've had a lot this year, stringing hits together,  reflected head coach Kris Herman. "It was a monumental at bat for Syd Fleming in the bottom of the 7th that should be highlighted and we had our chances to win after that but couldn't make it happen. Justine Dunaway had a great game on both sides of the ball, with three hits and some great hustle on defense, too."

How it Happened

  • Sadie Leonard pitched 9 innings with 14 strikeouts

  • Bowdoin jumped out to an early lead in the top of the 1st with an RBI single to left field

  • Sydney Fleming tied the game at 1–1 in the bottom of the 7th with a solo home run to left center, her first of the season.

  • Bowdoin broke the tie in the 9th, scoring three runs on a pair of RBI singles to pull away for the win.

  • Justine Dunaway led the Ephs at bat going 3-for-4
