"Tonight was a strong and steady performance from our team," said head coach
Christi Kelsey. "We had to battle and work point to point in set one but our crew stayed composed and confident, which helped us pull away from Trinity at the end. Sets two and three we found a rhythm with our play and kept executing at a high level. Overall it was a great first NESCAC win for us, and now we turn the page to focus on Connecticut College tomorrow."
During the first set, the Bantams (7-2, 0-1 NESCAC) took a 17-16 lead on a kill by Maya Hall. The Ephs showcased a great deal of resiliency, scoring nine of the next 13 points. Lane's fingerprints were all over the run, as she started the surge with a kill, and then rattled off three straight service points, giving Williams a 20-17 lead. A kill by Campuzano clinched the first-set victory.
The Ephs never trailed during the second set, as Lane and Campuzano combined for nine kills. Kaplan rose to the occasion with four aces. Kaplan's eight digs were pivotal in the third set, as the visitors jumped out to an 8-3 cushion on a kill by Campuzano. Back-to-back aces by Kaplan gave the unit a 22-11 lead, and then Lane delivered the match-clinching kill.
The Ephs will be back in action Saturday with a 2 p.m. NESCAC match against Connecticut College in New London, Connecticut.
