Swann leads Ephs in dominant team performance

Senior Kate Swann finished second overall in a dominant team win for the Ephs

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. - Kate Swann led a strong pack of Williams runners as the Ephs women's cross-country team took home first place at the Purple Valley Classic at Mt. Greylock Regional School on Saturday.

Williams placed all seven scoring runners in the top 10, finishing with 20 points, ahead of Tufts (58), Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (69), Trinity (105), and Molloy (153).

Swann, a senior from Williamstown who has raced on the trails at Mt. Greylock since 7th grade, crossed the line in second place overall with a time of 22:00. The next four runners across the line were all Ephs: Morgan Eigel (22:05), Tamar Byl-Brann (22:12), Jordan Liss-Riordan (22:17), and Kate Tuttle (22:21).

Charlene Peng (22:43, 8th overall) and Julia Brennan (22:49, 9th) rounded out the scoring positions for the hosts. RPI's Jules Bleskoski won the race in 20:39, and Tufts' Elizabeth Donahue (22:33, 7th)  was the only other competitor splitting the Ephs' top seven.

It was the only home race of the season for the Ephs, who had a total of 22 student-athletes cross the line, joined at the event by a large number of alumni and families.

Williams will be off next weekend before traveling to Keene State on Saturday, October 4, in the team's next competition.
