Sophomore
Lilly Carstens and junior
Morgan Daetz combined for 35 assists, while sophomore
Kate Lane and first-year
Eve Kaplan played well defensively, teaming up for 23 digs. Lane's 12 digs tied a personal record, while Kaplan recorded a career-best eight assists. Junior
Tatum Baker registered a strong all-around game, tallying seven kills and seven digs for the Ephs (10-0, 2-0 NESCAC).
"It was a really solid home win tonight for us," said head coach
Christi Kelsey. "We definitely see some of the things that we are working on adjusting in practice show up in how we play. Vassar is a really solid team and has started well this season, so this is a good victory at home midweek for us. I am very much looking forward to our next opportunity to play this weekend against Middlebury and Maine Maritime."
After trailing, 7-5, in the opening set, the Ephs turned the momentum with an outstanding 12-3 surge, claiming a 17-10 lead on a service point by Daetz. A kill by Obi clinched a 25-19 first-set triumph for the hosts.
The second set was tightly contested, as neither team was able to develop a lead of larger than five points. Back-to-back kills by Baker gave the unit a 21-17 advantage, and then Obi once again sealed the set, slamming down a kill and giving the group a 25-21 victory.
A service ace by Baker put Williams in front, 19-13, during the third set, and senior captain
Helen Qian delivered with the match-clinching kill, giving the Ephs a 25-18 third-set win. Maura McAusland posted a tremendous match for the Brewers (8-3), finishing with a double-double of 16 kills and 10 digs.
The Ephs will be back in action Saturday at Chandler Gymnasium, as they compete against NESCAC-rival Middlebury at 2 p.m. and Maine Maritime at 6 p.m.
