WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. - Sophomore
Charlotte Fetherston was the complete package for the Williams College women's ice hockey team Saturday afternoon, as she posted a career-high three points with two goals and one assist during a 6-2 triumph against Little Three-rival Wesleyan on senior day at Lansing Chapman Rink.
Prior to the start of the game, the Ephs (8-1-2, 2-1-1 NESCAC) honored their seven-person senior class, featuring
Erin Pye (23 saves),
Lucie Bond (1 goal, 1 assist),
Claire Murphy (1 goal),
Chloe Noxon (1 assist),
Maddie Samaan (1 goal),
Jaelyn Keiver (1 assist) and
Leah Rubinshteyn (1 assist). First-year
Reese Luber scored her first collegiate goal Saturday, as Williams earned all six NESCAC points this weekend with two victories over the Cardinals (2-9-1, 0-6-0 NESCAC).
"I am proud of the team for putting two good games together and getting six huge NESCAC points," said head coach
Meghan Gillis.
Murphy opened the scoring 10:24 into the opening period, as she buried a shot from the left faceoff circle off a feed by sophomore
Skyler Moore. Williams scored 10 seconds later on the ensuing shift, with Keiver winning the faceoff, and then Rubinshteyn eluded a defender on the left attacking side and found Luber with a pass right in front of the goal crease.
The visitors trimmed the deficit down to 2-1 on a goal by Aimee Seppenwolde with 5:38 left in the first, and then Fetherston restored the two-goal lead for the hosts, finishing a shot from point-blank range off a pass from behind the net by Bond. Bond pushed the lead up to 4-1 with 1:33 left, as she placed a shot into the right side of the net during a 2-on-1 breakaway with Fetherston. Williams held a 4-2 advantage at the end of one after a power-play goal by Lilly Place of Wesleyan with 42 seconds on the clock.
Fetherston scored from the right faceoff circle 6:42 into the second period, and then Samaan redirected a shot by first-year
Grace Johnson into the back of the net with 1:12 remaining in the third to end the scoring.
Pye improved to 7-1-2 on the season in net for Williams, while Fetherston was a plus three and tallied the game-winning tally. The hosts claimed a 39-25 lead in shots, as 14 student-athletes tallied at least one point in the victory.
The Ephs will compete in non-conference action against SUNY Morrisville Tuesday at 6 p.m. in Lansing Chapman Rink.
