WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. - The College Squash Association Women's Match of the Week did not disappoint, as Williams College and Georgetown University battled in an evenly-contested match on Sunday afternoon, with the visiting Hoyas coming out just ahead.
Georgetown, ranked #15, visited the #15 Ephs at the Simon Squash Center, and came away with wins in the early matches, taking a 2-1 lead after the first matches to take the court. Williams' #2 player, Rhea Pandit, won her match relatively quickly, earning a 3-0 win with game scores of 11-9, 11-9, 11-7.
At #9, Mahika Gupta fell 3-1, and #5 Roshni Pal dropped a 3-0 result as Georgetown took a quick lead. The visitors continued to roll, topping #1 Melanie Wang, #4 Rachel Miller, and #7 Anika Kakarla, who fought hard in a 3-1 loss.
The Ephs won all three of the final matches to take the court, with #3 Frances Brooks winning 3-1, and #6 Sophia Koehler and #8 Alicia Chen battling to 3-2 victories in dramatic matches.Â
The margins were tight throughout the ladder but the higher-ranked Hoyas were able to hold on for the victory. The Ephs will likely have another matchup with Georgetown later in the season at the CSA team championships, held in late February or early March, depending on final seeding.
The Ephs will stay at home next weekend, taking on Colby on Saturday and Bowdoin on Sunday in a pair of NESCAC matches.
