HARTFORD, Conn. - Sophomore goaltender
Eva Bentley of the No. 13-ranked Williams College women's ice hockey team accomplished two feats Friday evening, as she recorded her first collegiate shutout and NESCAC win during a 5-0 triumph over Trinity at the Koeppel Community Sports Center.
"We played a great team game today," said head coach
Meghan Gillis. "I was so proud to see Eva step up and get her first NESCAC win and shutout. We know Trinity will come back hard again tomorrow."
The Ephs (10-1-2, 3-1-1 NESCAC) were led by multi-point efforts from
Charlotte Fetherston (1 goal, 1 assist).
Chloe Noxon (1 goal, 1 assist),
Zoe Rosenberg (1 goal, 1 assist),
Lucie Bond (2 assists) andÂ
Leah Rubinshteyn (2 assists). Bentley improved to 3-0-0 on the season, making 23 saves against the Bantams (6-8-0, 2-5-0 NESCAC).
Williams opened the scoring at the 12:57 mark of the first period, as
Skyler Moore made a fantastic behind-the-net pass to
Annie Gallagher, who sent a shot on net that was saved.
Savana Littlewood followed up the rebound and tallied a wrap-around goal.
The visitors increased their lead 39 seconds into the second, with Rosenberg applying a great deal of pressure in the Ephs' offensive zone and stealing the puck from a Trinity defender. She proceeded to find Rubinshteyn, who played a puck into the crease area, and then Rosenberg was able to win the puck battle in front of the net and bury a goal.
Jaelyn Keiver extended the lead to 3-0 with 12:57 left on the clock in the middle period, as she was able to locate the puck in a scrum on the left side of the crease and send it into the back of the net. The Ephs struck again 46 seconds later, as Noxon won a faceoff, and then Bond delivered a pass to Fetherston that she one-timed into the back of the net. Noxon ended the scoring at the 8:52 mark of the third period, as she ripped a wrist shot into the back of the net from in between the two faceoff circles.
The Ephs held a 31-23 advantage in shots on goal, as Fetherston and Rosenberg led all student-athletes with five apiece.
Isa Healey finished 5-2 in the faceoff circle and Rosenberg went 4-1.
