HARTFORD, Conn. - Senior
Jaelyn Keiver and sophomore
Zoe Rosenberg of the No. 13-ranked Williams College women's ice hockey team finished with multi-point efforts Saturday afternoon at the Koeppel Community Sports Center, as the Ephs posted a 3-3 tie against Trinity in NESCAC action.
Sophomore
Skyler Moore scored the lone goal of the shootout in the third round, giving the Ephs (10-1-3, 3-1-2 NESCAC) a 1-0 victory in a game that goes down officially as a tie. Sophomore goaltender
Eva Bentley, who is 3-0-1 on the season, refused to allow any of the three Bantams' attempts to go into the net during the shootout. Keiver registered one goal and one assist, while Rosenberg contributed with a pair of assists.
"I thought we learned a lot about who we need to be as a team today," said head coach
Meghan Gillis. "We had some great moments and some not so great moments that we will focus on going into a big weekend at Colby."
The Bantams (6-8-1, 2-5-1 NESCAC) scored two goals in the opening 7:27, and then the Ephs tallied a power-play goal at the 9:37 mark of the first period. Sophomore
Charlotte Fetherston gained entrance into the offensive zone and passed to Rosenberg, who took a shot from the right faceoff circle that was saved. Sophomore
Annie Gallagher flicked the rebound over the goalie into the left side of the net.
Williams evened the score at 2-2 with 4:38 remaining in the second, as senior
Lucie Bond made a pass from behind the net onto the stick of Keiver on the edge of the crease. Keiver and first-year
Savana Littlewood chipped at the puck, and then Bond was able to force it over the goal line for the power-play tally.
The visitors went in front, 3-2, with 1:31 left in the second, as Rosenberg won a puck battle and passed to Keiver, who scored a backhand goal from the right side of the crease. Cassidy Yaun scored a power-play goal for the hosts with 9:10 remaining in the third to force overtime.
The Ephs held a 41-20 advantage in shots and went 2 for 5 on the power play. Bentley made nine saves in the third period and three in the extra session for Williams.
The Ephs compete against No. 12 Colby on Friday, Jan. 23, at 7 p.m. in Waterville, Maine.
