WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. - Sophomores
Aidan Yates and
Jackson Rein of the Williams College men's basketball team combined for 36 points Tuesday evening, as the Ephs earned a 78-58 non-conference victory over SUNY Delhi in Chandler Gymnasium.
Yates led all scorers with 19 points, as he shot 6 of 10 from the field, 3 for 7 on 3-pointers and 4 for 4 from the free-throw line for the Ephs (11-8, 0-5 NESCAC). Rein scored 13 of his 17 points in the second half, as Williams held an 18-4 advantage in points from turnovers. The hosts also led points in the paint, 28-22, second-chance points, 13-8, and bench points, 27-20.
Abdul-Jaleel Ibrahim led the Broncos (5-14, 4-8 North Atlantic Conference) with 13 points, while Jason Tagios recorded 10 points and six rebounds, shooting 2 of 3 on 3-pointers. The Ephs shot 44.3% from the field (27 for 61) and limited SUNY Delhi to 35.6% from the field (21 for 59).
Neither team was able to build a lead of greater than four points during the first 13 minutes of action. The Ephs ended the opening half on an 18-6 surge, taking a 36-23 advantage into halftime on a free throw by junior
Matt DeVine (8 points) with 33 seconds remaining.
During the second half, Williams refused to allow the Broncos to get closer than 10 points, as a 3-point shot by Yates with 10:15 on the scoreboard pushed the lead up to 59-38.
The Ephs will compete against Bates Friday night at 7 p.m. in Lewiston, Maine.
