NEW LONDON, Conn. - Senior
Connor Berg of the Williams College men's ice hockey team recorded one goal and one assist, as eight Ephs tallied at least one point during a 4-3 setback against Connecticut College Friday evening at Dayton Arena.
The Ephs (5-11-2, 4-8-0 NESCAC) held a 31-27 advantage in shots and senior captain
David Vieten (10-6) and junior forward
Logan Valkama (11-9) performed well in the faceoff circle. Pete Stanger posted two assists and goaltender Will McEvoy made 28 saves for the Camels (8-8-1, 4-6-1 NESCAC).
Williams opened the scoring at the 7:36 mark of the first period. Berg's shot from the point was deflected, and then Vieten flicked a shot top shelf over the goalie from the left faceoff circle for an early 1-0 advantage.
The Camels responded by scoring the next three goals, but the Ephs pulled to within one at 3-2 on a power-play tally by first-year
Jack Kennedy with 2:28 on the scoreboard in the second. Kennedy snapped a wrist shot from the right faceoff circle into the left side of the net.
Max Treppo scored one minute, 24 seconds, later for the hosts, but Williams cut the deficit to 4-3 with 3:34 on the clock in the third. Sophomore forward
Jake McManus carried the puck through the neutral zone, and then located Berg on the left side of the offensive zone. Berg went in one-on-one with the goalie and made a nifty move around the crease to make it a one-goal game.
The Ephs will compete against Tufts Saturday at 4 p.m. in Malden, Massachusetts.
