MALDEN, Mass. - First-year forward
Ryan Kearney of the Williams College men's ice hockey team forced overtime on a goal with 1:23 left in the third period, and then buried his first collegiate game-winner 3:19 into overtime during a thrilling 5-4 victory on the road against Tufts Saturday.
The Ephs (6-11-2, 5-8-0 NESCAC) showcased tremendous resiliency, fighting back from a pair of two-goal deficits, with the second one occurring in the third period. Kearney finished with his first collegiate three-point day, contributing with one assist, while sophomore forward
Rowan Heithoff (2 goals) and first-year defender
Jack Kennedy (2 assists) also recorded multi-point efforts.
Leading the way for the Jumbos (8-9-1, 5-7-0 NESCAC) were Ethan Ullrick (2 goals), Bryceon Lago (2 assists) and Brendan Fennell (2 assists).
Ullrick opened the scoring on the power play at the 2:47 mark of the first period for the Jumbos, and then the Ephs responded with a goal on the advantage by first-year forward
Jackson Krill with 14:20 remaining in the opening period.
Tufts built a 3-1 advantage in the second period, but a goal by Heithoff in the final minute trimmed the deficit down to one heading into the third period. Max Resnick scored 31 seconds into the third for the hosts, but Heithoff responded again at the 4:02 mark, setting the stage for Kearney's late-game heroics.
The Ephs held a 38-18 advantage in shots on goal, as Krill led the way with nine. Both teams went 1 for 2 on power-play opportunities.
