HANOVER, N.H. - The Williams College Nordic ski team lifted the Ephs to another 7th place finish this weekend, this time in the Dartmouth Carnival in Hanover, New Hampshire.
First-year Miles Miner continued his strong performances for the team, and junior Bailey Carmack also had a strong weekend, having her best race in nearly two years to help Williams earn valuable points.
"I'm really proud of our effort on Saturday," said head coach Steve Monsulick. "Both the men and women showed a lot of grit during the mass start. The team rebounded really well from a tough day on Friday with multiple top 40 finishes on both sides."
On Saturday in the mass start, Quinn McDermott finished 20th, Tzevi Schwartz 28th, and Janne Koch 31st, with the trio earning 61 points, 5th among the 14 competing teams. The women's mass start had Ann Rightmire, Carmack and Luci Ludwig earning 41 points for the Ephs, 8th in the field.
Friday saw strong performances as well, with Miner leading the way in the 7.5km event, finishing 24th, with teammates Schwartz and McDermott also adding to the team scoring. The same three women earned points for the Ephs in Friday's race, this time with Carmack leading the group, followed by Rightmire and Ludwig.
Williams finished 7th overall in the scoring for the Carnival, with Nordic earning 188 of the Ephs' 358 points. UVM won the event, ahead of Dartmouth and Middlebury.
Williams will travel north again next weekend for the UVM Carnival, with the Nordic race taking place in Craftsbury, Vt., and the Ephs will then come home on February 13-14 for the Williams Carnival, with Nordic events being held at Prospect Mountain in Woodford, Vt.
