No. 8 Ephs extend undefeated streak to 16 games with 1-1 tie against Hamilton

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. - Senior goaltender Erin Pye stopped 35-of-36 shots for a .972 save percentage Saturday afternoon, as the No. 8-ranked Williams College women's ice hockey team recorded a 1-1 tie against Hamilton at Lansing Chapman Rink.

The Ephs (13-1-4, 6-1-3 NESCAC) won the shootout, 1-0, behind a sensational opening-round goal by first-year Savana Littlewood, as she froze the goalie and buried a shot going toward her left. Pye refused to allow the Continentals (9-6-4, 5-4-3 NESCAC) to score on any of their three attempts. Williams is currently on a 16-game undefeated streak and sits in third place in the NESCAC standings with 22.5 points.

Williams opened the scoring at the 10:47 mark of the second period on the power play, as senior defender Claire Murphy scored on a wrist shot skating toward her left at the point off passes by senior forwards Leah Rubinshteyn and Jaelyn Keiver. With under 10 seconds remaining in the second period, junior defender Celine Mayer made an elite defensive stand, blocking a pass by Hamilton on a developing 2-on-1 situation.

Katie Allen scored with 8:49 left in the third period for Hamilton to force overtime. Hamilton and Williams put 36 and 35 shots on goal, respectively, while each team went 29-29 in the faceoff circle. Sophomore forward Annie Gallagher went 10-6 on faceoffs, while Keiver registered a 7-4 record.

Murphy and sophomore forward Charlotte Fetherston led the way with eight and seven shots, respectively. The Ephs went 1 for 4 on the power play and killed off Hamilton's two opportunities on the advantage.

The Ephs will compete against Connecticut College Friday at 7 p.m. in New London, Connecticut.
