LAKE PLACID, N.Y. - The Williams College Nordic ski team kicked off its season at the St. Lawrence Carnival, with several members of the squad putting in strong performances. The team will earn its final team score after the Alpine competition is completed in two weeks time.
Senior captain Tzevi Schwartz led the way for the Ephs, finishing an impressive 8th overall in the individual classic and earning 35 points for the team. Quinn McDermott (20 points) and Janne Koch (18) were the other points-earning Ephs in the race.
On the women's side of the individual classic, another senior captain, Luci Ludwig, was the team's top finisher, capturing 20 team points, with first-year Seven Bowen earning 13 points for the team, and sophomore Olya Wright getting 8 more points.
In the freestyle sprint race, Miles Miner was another top-10 finisher, earning 33 points for his 10th place finish, with McDermott earning 24 points for a 23rd place finish, and Cole Bothner getting 22 points for the team. Bowen was the top finisher for Williams in the women's race, with 18 points, followed by Ludwig with 15 and captain Francesca Kitch earning 11.
The team will be back in action in a little less than three weeks at the Colby Carnival, competing in Waterville, Maine, on January 23 and 24.
