WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. - Senior goaltender
Erin Pye of the Williams College women's ice hockey team made 29 saves, as the Ephs overcame an early 1-0 deficit during a 4-1 victory over Little Three-rival Wesleyan in NESCAC action Friday evening at Lansing Chapman Rink.
"Wesleyan played a tough game tonight and came out fighting from puck drop," said head coach
Meghan Gillis. "I thought our team settled into a team game at points and we are excited for our opportunity tomorrow."
The Ephs (7-1-2, 1-1-1 NESCAC) received multi-point efforts by
Savana Littlewood (2 assists),
Claire Murphy (2 assists),
Jaelyn Keiver (1 goal, 1 assist),
Zoe Rosenberg (1 goal, 1 assist) and
Leah Rubinshteyn (1 goal, 1 assist). First-year
Noa Diop recorded her first collegiate assist. Williams held a 40-30 advantage over the Cardinals (2-8-1, 0-5-0 NESCAC) in shots on goal, while the Ephs went 2 for 2 on the power play and killed off all three Wesleyan opportunities on the advantage.
Dylan Green opened the scoring for the visitors with 7:30 remaining in the opening period. Williams responded on the power play with 1:01 left in the first, as Keiver set up position in front of the net and tipped in a shot by Littlewood from the right faceoff circle.
The Ephs struck again with 6:29 on the clock in the second. Rosenberg made a tremendous pass from Williams' defensive zone, finding Rubinshteyn in stride through the neutral zone, as the senior buried a shot top shelf. Senior
Lucie Bond gave the Ephs a 3-1 advantage on a power-play tally with 56 seconds on the scoreboard in the second, as she followed up the rebound on a shot by Murphy.
Williams ended the scoring 8:09 into the final period, as Keiver stole the puck in the Cardinals' defensive zone, and then delivered a pass to Rubinshteyn. The puck found its way onto the stick of Rosenberg, who flicked a shot over the diving goaltender into the right side of the net.
The Ephs will host Wesleyan Saturday at 3 p.m. in Lansing Chapman Rink.
