BRUNSWICK, Maine — The Williams College women's tennis team showcased its exceptional talent and depth Friday, as the Ephs saw two pairs advance to the Round of 16 in doubles action and first-year Gabriela Finchelstein reached the Round of 16 in the A Singles Draw during the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) New England Regional on the campus of Bowdoin College.

"Today was a long day and we had a lot of great battles," said 10th-year head coach Anik Cepeda. "We are working on playing our games, and supporting each other on and off the court. I am looking forward to another day filled with some fun tennis."

During the A Singles Draw in the Round of 64, Finchelstein defeated senior Alexandra Burnett of Wesleyan in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4, and then outlasted first-year June Kim of Bates in a three-set thriller, 7-6, 3-6, 10-6, in Round of 32 action. She is now 4-1 in singles during the fall season.

After receiving a first-round bye, senior captains Julia Zhang and Ahn Lin took care of business in the Round of 32, winning, 8-6, against juniors Sophie Buttorff and Nandini Patel of Wellesley.

During the B Singles Draw in the Round of 64, Lin was victorious over junior Asahi Goods of Connecticut College, 8-3. Yao won by a score of 8-4 in the same round against sophomore Galia Harmelin of Brandeis. Yao is 3-1 in singles competition this semester.
