WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — The fifth-ranked Williams College field hockey team received contributions up and down the roster Friday evening, as 26 Ephs saw action and 10 tallied at least one point during a 7-1 non-conference triumph over Roger Williams at Williamson Field.
"We competed with intensity and focus from the start," said 27th-year head coach
Alix Barrale '93. "It was a great team effort against a strong team. We capitalized in the circle with many different combinations. It was an exciting win."
The Ephs (8-2, 4-2 NESCAC) were led by senior
Madeline Rowland (2 goals), junior
Mikaela Condran (2 assists), sophomore
Katie Sigrist (1 goal, 1 assist) and first-year
Kayla Bohlin (1 goal, 1 assist). Bohlin and first-year
Dakota Adams scored their first collegiate goals in the victory, while Condran picked up her first career points.
Rowland tallied the game-winning goal during the third minute, as Sigrist played a ball down the right side of the circle. Bohlin received the pass and slid the ball right in front of the net, and then Rowland tipped a shot into the bottom left corner of the goal. The Wilmington, Delaware, native struck again, redirecting a shot by first-year
Hannah Herlihy into the right side of the net off a penalty corner by senior
Claire Colvin with 10 minutes left in the first quarter.
During the 11th minute, Colvin inserted a corner from the left attacking side to senior captain
Laura Ryan, who immediately dumped off a pass to Sigrist. Bohlin established position in the middle of the circle and tipped Sigrist's shot into the right side of the net for a 3-0 advantage. With 7:11 remaining in the second, senior
Haley McAuslin one-timed a pass by Ryan into the net off a corner from the left attacking side by senior
Keira Harder.
Sigrist slammed a shot from the top of the circle into the bottom right corner of the net 31 seconds into the third, pushing the Ephs' lead to 5-0. One minute, 10 seconds later, first-year
Ella Nannene went top shelf with a backhand shot, and then with 4:01 on the clock in the third, Adams slid a shot into the back of the net from close range on the left side of the circle, extending the hosts' advantage to 7-0.
