WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. - Sophomore forward
Annie Gallagher of the No. 9-ranked Williams College women's ice hockey team evened the game at 1-1 less than two minutes into the third period, but four goals in the final 10 minutes, four seconds, propelled No. 5 Middlebury to a 5-1 win Friday evening at Lansing Chapman Rink.
The Ephs (14-3-4, 7-3-3Â NESCAC) sit in fourth place in the NESCAC standings with 25.5 points. Goaltender Sophia Will made 24 saves for the Panthers (15-3-3, 10-1-2 NESCAC).
Susannah Ward opened the scoring for Middlebury at the 11:58 mark of the first period. Senior goalie
Erin Pye made a tremendous stop on Maeve McAdams with 2:53 remaining in the second period, as the forward came out of the penalty box with a breakaway opportunity.
Early in the third period, sophomore forward
Skyler Moore and first-year defender
Laney Mead worked diligently for the puck deep in the Ephs' offensive zone. The puck found its way onto the stick of Gallagher and she carried down the right faceoff circle, burying a shot top shelf.
Kate Flynn and Olivia McManus scored even-strength goals at the 9:56 and 15:27 marks of the third, respectively, giving Middlebury a 3-1 advantage. Britt Nawrocki and Trinity Walsh secured the victory for the visitors with empty-net tallies at the 17:26 and 18:52 marks, respectively.
Williams went 28-25 on faceoffs, as senior
Leah Rubinshteyn and junior
Isa Healey finished 5-1, respectively. Middlebury held a 31-25 advantage in shots on goal.
The Ephs will compete at Middlebury Saturday with puck drop set for 7 p.m.
