WOODFORD, Vt. - Sophomore Quinn McDermott earned a 5th place finish at the Williams Carnival's individual freestyle on Friday, helping the Ephs earn 7th place at the Ephs' home carnival held this weekend at Prospect Mountain and Jiminy Peak.
The format for Nordic was an individual freestyle race on Friday, and a 3x5 relay on Saturday. The Ephs' Nordic skiers earned a total of 190 points, and Alpine added 209 more, giving Williams (399) a comfortable cushion over eighth-placed Harvard (318) in the overall standings.
McDermott took advantage of his knowledge of the home course to compete against a strong field and earn fifth, capturing 39 points for the Ephs. Will Mowry and Tzevi Schwartz also earned points for Williams in the race, and Miles Miner put forth a strong effort to finish second on the team.
On the women's side, Luci Ludvig again led the way for the Ephs, and Bailey Carmack and Chloe Koch also scored points for the hosts. Olya Wright and Ella Bullock were just behind Koch, and Seven Bowen, Kiri May, and Francesca Kitch also pushed to the finish on a beautiful day at Prospect.
On Saturday, the format shifted to a relay for the first time this season, and the Williams men finished 9th, while the women were 11th among the points-scoring teams.Â
The Ephs will conclude the regular season with next weekend's Middlebury Carnival, after which the team will learn if any racers have qualified for the NCAA Championships, which will be held March 11-14.
