AMHERST, MA – The Williams College women's basketball team delivered a historic performance, topping Amherst College 59-44, marking the program's first victory of the Mammoths in 19 years.
With the win, the Ephs move to 12-12 overall and 5-5 in conference play, while the Mammoths move to 17-7 and 6-4 in NESCAC action.
Williams jumped out to a 12–4 lead after one quarter and never trailed, extending its advantage behind disciplined defense and timely shooting. The Ephs led 29–10 by halftime and maintained momentum through the second half to secure the road victory.
Micah Walton paced Williams with 24 points on 10-for-18 shooting while adding eight rebounds.
Kathleen Smith followed with 14 points and a team-high 13 rebounds.
Logan Coster contributed 12 points, knocking down the Ephs' only two three-pointers of the afternoon and adding five rebounds.
Hanorah Murphy chipped in four points and five boards, while
Tatum Leuenberger added two points and five rebounds.
Defense set the tone throughout as Williams held Amherst to just 44 points, limiting the Mammoths to single-digit scoring in both the first and second quarters. The Ephs forced 18 turnovers and converted them into 10 points on the offensive end.
As a team, Williams shot 47.2% from the field, 28.6% from behind the arc, and knocked down seven free throws.
The Ephs close the regular season at 12–12 overall and 5–5 in conference play, carrying momentum into postseason action.
