Ephs post 4-3 win at No. 2 Hamilton

CLINTON, N.Y. - Junior forward Brady Welsch finished with one goal and two assists and junior goaltender Harrison Fogel made 30 saves for the Williams College men's ice hockey team Friday evening, as eight Ephs tallied at least one point during a 4-3 win at No. 2-ranked Hamilton.

The Ephs (9-12-2, 8-9-0 NESCAC) currently sit in sixth place in the conference standings with 24 points, but they are only three points behind third place. The top-four seeds host first-round playoff games on Saturday, Feb. 28. Williams has won four of its last five NESCAC games.

Justin Biraben led the way for the Continentals (18-3-2, 14-2-1 NESCAC) with one goal and two assists.

Sophomore William Yee scored at the 3:32 mark of the first period, and then senior Connor Berg and first-year Jackson Krill found the back of the net at the 6:26 and 8:46 marks of the second, respectively, giving the Ephs a 3-0 advantage.

Michael Gallary and Ryan Sordillo each registered a goal in the second for Hamilton, and then Welsch gave Williams some breathing room on the game-winning goal with 1:30 left in the middle period, pushing the advantage up to 4-2. Biraben scored at the 10:28 mark of the third, but the Ephs were able to make enough plays down the stretch to secure the pivotal victory.

Williams compiled a 1-for-3 effort on the power play and Hamilton finished 1 of 7. The Ephs went 28-24 on faceoffs, as junior Logan Valkama and sophomore Jake McManus posted 13-8 and 9-6 performances, respectively.

The Ephs will conclude their regular season on Saturday with a 3 p.m. puck drop at Amherst, as Williams can finish anywhere between third and sixth in the NESCAC standings.
