MALDEN, Mass. - After trailing, 1-0, at the end of the first period, the sixth-seeded Williams College men's ice hockey team scored three unanswered goals during the second and third, as the Ephs defeated third-seeded Tufts, 3-1, at Malden Valley Forum Saturday afternoon during the quarterfinal round of the NESCAC Tournament.
Junior goaltender
Harrison Fogel stopped 31-of-32 shots for a .969 save percentage and first-year forward
Jackson Krill finished with one goal and one assist for the Ephs (10-13-2, 8-10-0 NESCAC). Williams will play top-seeded and No. 4-ranked Hamilton during the semifinals of the conference playoffs on Saturday, March 7, at 1 p.m. in Clinton, New York.
Trace Norwell opened the scoring for the Jumbos (12-12-1, 9-9-0 NESCAC) with 1:59 showing on the scoreboard in the first period. Senior forward
Conner Fitzpatrick knotted the game at 1-1 with 12:55 left in the second, and then Krill buried the game-winning tally with 7:29 remaining in the middle period.
First-year forward
Gates Omicioli gave the Ephs a two-goal advantage at the 3:05 mark of the third. Fogel stopped all of the Jumbos' 23 shots during the second and third periods.
The Ephs went 4 for 4 on the penalty kill, while Fitzpatrick and Krill led the visitors with four shots on goal, respectively. Williams won 33-of-63 faceoffs, as junior forward
Logan Valkama compiled a 7-3 record.
