BENNINGTON, Vt. - Five Ephs finished with 2-0 records Saturday afternoon, as the No. 19-ranked Williams College men's tennis team outlasted Sprinfield, 7-0, in season-opening action at the Bennington Tennis Center.
Senior captains
Simon Volkema and
Nicholas Chen teamed up for a 6-0 victory at the top doubles slot for the Ephs (1-0). Additionally, Volkema and Chen won in straight sets at the No. 1 and 2 singles positions, respectively, with scores of 6-1, 6-0, and 6-2, 6-1. The Pride are 3-1 on the season.
William Luke '29 and
Carter Fayard '28 emerged victorious at No. 2 doubles, 6-0, while Luke also did not lose a single game at third singles, winning, 6-0, 6-0.
Anthony Lim '29 and
Robert Cooper Jr. '28 won a competitive match at No. 3 doubles, 6-4. Lim took his talents to No. 4 singles, winning, 6-0, 6-1, and Cooper Jr. posted a 6-3, 6-2, triumph at the fifth slot.
During No. 6 singles,
Jack Ling '28 swept the opening set, 6-0, and then tallied a 6-2 victory in the second set.
The Ephs will begin NESCAC action on Saturday, March 7, with a 10 a.m. match against No. 24Â Wesleyan in Middletown, Connecticut.
