MIDDLETOWN, Conn. - Senior captain
Simon Volkema of the No. 18-ranked Williams College men's tennis team emerged victorious at No. 1 singles and doubles during a thrilling 4-3 triumph against No. 24 Wesleyan Saturday at the Bacon Field House.
Volkema teamed up with senior captain
Nicholas Chen at the top doubles position, as the two standout student-athletes won by a score of 6-4. After Wesleyan (1-2, 0-1 NESCAC)Â secured the one point in doubles by winning the second and third flights, Williams (2-0, 1-0 NESCAC)Â answered by coming out on top in 4-of-6 singles matches.
Volkema won in straight sets, 7-5, 6-4, at No. 1 singles, and then
William Luke '29 (6-2, 6-4) andÂ
Robert Cooper Jr. '28 (6-2, 6-3) earned victories at the third and fifth slots, respectively. During No. 6 singles,
Jack Ling '28 won the opening set, 7-6 (7-3), and the second set, 7-6 (7-4).
The Ephs will compete against Connecticut College Sunday at 9:30 a.m. in New London, Connecticut.
