WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. - Senior captain
Jane Ladaga of the No. 17-ranked Williams College women's tennis team went a perfect 4-0 during a pair of matches Saturday, as the Ephs defeated Smith, 4-3, and outlasted Springfield, 6-1, in season-opening action at the Multipurpose Recreation Center (MRC).
During the match against the Pioneers (1-3), Ladaga and
Mia Roets '28 won at No. 1 doubles, 6-1, while Ladaga also emerged victorious, 6-2, 6-1, at No. 5 singles for the Ephs (2-0).
Zoe Yao '29 and
Ayanna Varma '29 recorded wins at No. 2 and 3 singles, respectively, by scores of 6-1, 7-5, and 6-1, 6-3. During fourth singles,
Ellie Stark '28 posted a 6-0, 6-1, triumph.
Against the Pride (1-1), Williams won all three doubles matches, as Ladaga and Roets earned a 6-2 victory at the top slot. During the second flight,
Ahn Lin '27 and Varma earned a 6-2 decision, and then in the third position,
Julia Zhang '27 and Stark provided a 6-1 triumph.
Varma (6-2, 5-7, 6-2), Stark (6-1, 6-1), Ladaga (6-0, 6-0), Lin (6-1, 6-0) and
Margaux Molyneux '27Â (6-0, 6-0) were victorious at No. 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 singles, respectively.
The Ephs begin NESCAC action with a 2 p.m. match against No. 6 Wesleyan on Saturday, March 7, in Middletown, Connecticut.
