Ephs Fall Short Against Colby

WILLIAMSTOWN, MA — The Williams College women's basketball team battled throughout but fell 68–62 to Colby College on Friday night at Chandler Athletic Center in NESCAC action.

With the result, the Ephs moved to 10–11 overall and 3–4 in conference play, while the Mules improved to 13–8 and 3–5 in conference play.

Colby jumped out quickly, opening the game with a 19–8 lead after one quarter as the Mules knocked down multiple threes and shot 57% from the field. 

Williams responded in the second period, knocking down four three-pointers to cut the deficit to 32–25 by halftime. Both teams traded baskets throughout the third quarter, with Colby holding a narrow lead entering the final period.

In the fourth, the Mules extended their advantage, building their largest lead of the night before holding off a late Williams push to secure the road victory.

Logan Coster led the Ephs with a career-high 22 points, shooting 8-for-12 from the field and knocking down 6-of-8 from three-point range to pace the Williams' offense. 

Micah Walton added 13 points and five rebounds, while Kathleen Smith also contributed 13 points along with five boards in a solid all-around effort. Hanorah Murphy finished with five points, and Tatum Leuenberger scored three.

Williams' depth showed as Gracie Augustine and Mairi Smith combined for six points, and Evelyn Walcott chipped in two in limited minutes, as the Eph's bench combined for 28 points.

The Ephs collected 31 rebounds and forced nine turnovers, while shooting 46.3% from the field and 8-for-21 from three-point range, along with a 4-for-6 mark at the free-throw line.

Kate Olenik led Colby with 24 points, while Lydia Mordarski added 22 and Amelia Hanscom chipped in 17 to lead the Mules' offense.

Williams will look to regroup as it hosts No. 8 Bowdoin on Saturday afternoon at 3:00 p.m.
