CRAFTSBURY, Vt. - First-year Miles Miner continued a string of strong performances with a fifth-place finish in Friday's sprint and sophomore Quinn McDermott followed with a fifth-place finish in Saturday's freestyle at the University of Vermont Carnival as the Williams College Nordic squad earned key points in a 7th-place team finish.
On Friday, the Williams men had the third best team score in the sprint, with Miner finishing fifth, Chip Freeman earning 12th, and Tzevi Schwartz taking 14th place. The group earned 95 points toward the team score, the best of the season and trailing only UVM and Middlebury.
In the Sprint on the women's side, Luci Ludwig was the team's top finisher, followed by Seven Bowen and Francesca Kitch. The women put in a good performance on Saturday in the freestyle, with Ann Rightmire leading the team, ahead of Ludwig and Bailey Carmack.
For the men's freestyle individual start, McDermott trailed only four skiers from UVM, finishing fifth overall and earning big points for the team. The Ephs' other scorers were Schwartz and Chip Freeman, with Will Mowry also putting in a strong performance.Â
As a team, the Ephs placed 7th in the carnival, earning 377 points between Nordic (234) and Alpine (143).
Williams will come home next weekend for the Williams Carnival, with Nordic events taking place at Prospect Mountain in Woodford, Vt., and Alpine at Jiminy Peak in Hancock, Mass.
