Game Recap: Women's Ice Hockey |

No. 8 Ephs score 3 goals in first 8 minutes during 4-0 win at Connecticut College

NEW LONDON, Conn. - Senior assistant captain Lucie Bond recorded one goal and two assists and senior goaltender Erin Pye earned her fourth shutout of the season for the No. 8-ranked Williams College women's ice hockey team during a 4-0 triumph at Connecticut College Saturday afternoon.

The Ephs (14-2-4, 7-2-3 NESCAC) took control early, scoring three times in the opening seven minutes, 54 seconds, while Pye was sensational in net, stopping all 35 shots from the Camels (7-11-2, 3-10-1 NESCAC). Williams sits in third place in the NESCAC standings with 25.5 points.

The Ephs opened the scoring at the 4:10 mark of the first period, as first-year defender Noa Diop kept the puck in the offensive zone at the right point, and then found senior forward Leah Rubinshteyn in the slot, who placed her second game-winning tally of the season into the bottom right corner of the net. Williams extended its lead 46 seconds later, with Bond skating around the net and dumping a pass to senior Claire Murphy in the left faceoff circle and the defender beat the goalie to the top left corner.

Sophomore forward Charlotte Fetherston stole the puck in the neutral zone, and then slid a pass over to Bond, who found the back of the net during a breakaway situation for a 3-0 advantage with 12:06 remaining in the first. First-year defender Laney Mead ended the scoring in the final minute of the second, as she scored from straight on after Bond's initial shot from the left faceoff circle was blocked by a defender.

Williams killed off all six of Connecticut College's power plays and held a 36-35 advantage in shots on goal. Senior forward Jaelyn Keiver went 7-4 on faceoffs, while Bond and Murphy tallied six shots on goal, respectively.

The Ephs compete against No. 4 Middlebury Friday at 7 p.m. in Lansing Chapman Rink.
