ONEONTA, N.Y. - The Williams College wrestling team dropped a tight result against Ithaca College before beating Wesleyan University and the hosts from SUNY Oneonta at the Oneonta Quad on Saturday in New York.
In the first match of the day, the Ephs were beaten by a narrow margin against Ithaca, losing 22-19. Williams dominated in the middle of the weight classes, winning at 149 (Caleb Seyfried), 157 (Peter Kane), 165 (Henry Forte), 174 (Gage Wiggins) and 184 (Jamie Evarts), but the Bombers captured the lightest and heaviest weight classes, winning at 125, 133, 141, 197 and 285.Â
The Ephs rebounded in their second match of the day, beating NESCAC rival Wesleyan comfortably by a 39-9 margin. Wesleyan won just two of the matches, while Williams had eight winners: Jake Strianese (133), Seyfried, Kane, Fisher Stites (165), Wiggins, Evarts, Zach Borzio (197) and Connor Reynolds (285), four of which came via pin.
Williams cruised again over Oneonta, this time winning 42-11. Lucas Johnson (125), Kane, Stites, Wiggins, Borzio, and David LaPrade (197) all won via fall, and Strianese and Hayden Haber (149) also won their matches.
The Ephs will return home to Lasell Gymnasium on Friday, February 13 for their final home match of the season, hosting Vermont State University Castleton at 7pm.
