WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. - Franny Donohue had three goals and five assists as the Williams College women's lacrosse team earned a comfortable 15-4 victory over Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute on Wednesday afternoon in non-conference action. The win pushed the Ephs to 2-1 on the young season, in the first of three home games in seven days for the team.
Katy McCullough also scored three goals and eight different players scored, and first-year goalie Savoy McMahon earned her second win in as many starts, making four saves.
The Ephs got the first goal of the game just 36 seconds in, when Paige Nelson scored unassisted, and the hosts were up 5-0 before RPI got on the board. McCullough and Donohue scored the second and third goals for Williams, before Donohue had assists on the next two goals, from Sydney Puntus and Coco Norman. The Engineers pulled a goal back with 3:10 to play in the first quarter, but the Ephs quickly reestablished a five goal cushion when Cece Tauber scored unassisted on a player-up situation to finish the quarter at 6-1.
It was all Williams in the second quarter as well, with the team scoring five and keeping the visitors off the scoresheet, and moving the game into running time with a 10-goal lead at 4:44 remaining in the half. Donohue scored twice in the quarter, with McCullough, Nelson, and Reece Willison adding to the total. RPI had one goal in the quarter and the score was 13-2 going into the 4th.
Several players made their debuts in the final session and Mia Kincade got the first goals of her career, scoring unassisted first and then off a helper from McCullough. RPI got the final two goals of the game to finish the contest at 15-4.
The Ephs will continue its homestand with a match against NESCAC rival Bowdoin on Saturday, with the game starting at noon on Farley-Lamb Field.
