LEWISTON, Maine - Senior captains
Simon Volkema and
Nicholas Chen, along with sophomore
Robert Cooper Jr. and first-year
Anthony Lim, of the No. 18-ranked Williams College men's tennis team won in singles and doubles competition during a 7-0 triumph at No. 32 Bates in Merrill Gymnasium Sunday.
The Ephs (4-0, 3-0 NESCAC) won 2-of-3 matches to secure the one point in doubles action against the Bobcats (3-6, 1-3 NESCAC). Volkema and Chen won in a competitive match, 6-4, at the top position, while Lim and Cooper Jr. earned a 6-2 win at the third slot.
During singles action, Williams went a perfect 6-0. Volkema and Chen won by scores of 6-2, 7-6 (7-2), and 6-2, 6-2, at the first and second positions, respectively. First-year
William Luke (6-3, 6-4), Lim (6-3, 3-6, 6-3), Cooper Jr. (6-3, 6-2) and sophomore
Jack Ling (6-4, 6-4) won at No. 3, 4, 5 and 6 positions, respectively.
The Ephs compete against Chapman on Monday, March 23, at 2 p.m. Pacific Time in Orange, California.
