Ephs sweep Knox in doubleheader

AUBURNDALE, Fla. - The Williams College baseball team started its 2026 spring break trip in style, as the Ephs swept Knox in a doubleheader Saturday afternoon at Lake Myrtle Park #4, winning by scores of 5-0 and 13-4 in a pair of seven-inning games.

During Game 1, sophomore starting pitcher Grant Greiner improved to 2-1 on the season for the Ephs (3-2), earning the win in six innings of work. He did not allow any runs and only three hits, while striking out five and walking two. First-year relief pitcher Jared Lessing made his debut and retired the side in order during the seventh to secure the victory.

Junior Marcus Burrell II (2 for 3, double, RBI) and sophomore Oliver Rey (2 for 3, 2 runs) excelled on offense. A sacrifice fly to left field by senior Sasha Palma allowed junior Will Scott to cross home and score the game's first run in the second. Senior Luca Lopetrone tallied a two-out double to left, and then extended Williams' lead to 2-0 on a fielding error by the shortstop.

During the third, Rey tallied a one-out single to center, and then scored during the ensuing at-bat on an RBI double to right by Burrell II. Rey and sophomore Ben Swank tallied unearned runs in the fifth to end the scoring.

During Game 2, the Ephs' bats came alive early, as they scored seven first-inning runs. Junior Ryan Nakajima tallied a two-run double, while sophomore Nate Rosner, sophomore Lucas Asanovic and sophomore Hank Jacobus tallied RBI singles, respectively.

Ephs' starting pitcher Sam Fraiberg earned his first collegiate win, giving up one run and two hits in four innings of work, while striking out five and walking one. He gave up a run in the first inning, and then posted 1-2-3 innings in the second and third, including striking out the side in the second.

Williams extended its lead to 9-1 in the third as a result of an RBI double by Burrell II and a one-run single by Nakajima. The Ephs scored one more run in the fourth, two in the sixth and one in the seventh, while the Prairie Fire (1-13) scored one run in the fifth and two in the seventh.

The Ephs compete against DePauw Sunday with game times set for 2:30 and 5 p.m. at Northeast Regional Park #2 in Davenport, Florida.
