Baseball drops doubleheader against DePauw in Florida

DAVENPORT, Fla. - The Williams College baseball team dropped a pair of games to DePauw University in spring break action in Florida on Sunday afternoon, falling 11-4 in game one and 5-2 in the second game, both 7-inning affairs.

The Ephs take Monday off and will be back in action on Tuesday, facing Carleton College at 9:30am, again in Davenport.

DePauw jumped on the Ephs early on Sunday, storming out to an 8-0 lead in the first game before Williams got on the board in the 6th inning. The Ephs scored four runs to halve the Tigers' lead, but DePauw scored three more in the top of the 7th to keep Williams from getting any closer. The Ephs scattered seven hits, with Quinn Carlesimo going 2-for-3 with an RBI, and Marcus Burrell II, Will Scott, and Ryan Nakajima each had a hit and an RBI in the game. Landon Kim threw two scoreless innings in relief, allowing just one hit.

In the second game, Williams was the road team and took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first when a Nakajima groundout scored Oliver Rey, but DePauw tied it at one in the bottom of the first. The Ephs took another lead when Burrell hit a double that scored Rey in the 5th, but the Tigers again struck back in the bottom of the inning to take a 3-2 lead, and scored twice more in the sixth to close the scoreline at 5-2.

The Ephs are carrying a 3-4 record into Tuesday's game, and will also play Oberlin College on Wednesday before opening the NESCAC schedule on Friday for the first of three games against Hamilton, all to be played in Auburndale, Fla.
