Williams Shutout Carleton 8-0

The Williams College baseball team continued their Florida spring break trip with a commanding 8-0 shutout victory over Carleton College on Tuesday at Northeast Regional Park.

With the win, the Ephs improve to 4-4 on the season.

The Ephs struck early and never looked back, opening the scoring in the first inning when Marcus Burrell II tripled to right field to bring home Oliver Rey and give Williams a 1-0 lead.

Williams added to its advantage in the third inning behind more production from Burrell II. The junior singled to right field to drive in Ben Swank, while Rey came around to score later in the inning on a double play off the bat of Will Scott, extending the lead to 3-0.

The Ephs broke the game open in the sixth inning as Dave Mosrie delivered a two-run double to left field, scoring Quinn Carlesimo and Anthony Lods to push the margin to 5-0.

Williams tacked on three more runs in the ninth inning, capitalizing on Carleton errors. Luca Lopetrone scored on a wild pitch before Will Scott and Ryan Nakajima each crossed the plate on a catcher's error and a passed ball, respectively, to seal the 8-0 victory.

On the mound, the Ephs' pitching staff was dominant, combining for a shutout and limiting Carleton to five hits on the day.

Sophomore Nate Rosner picked up his first win of the season on the mound, escaping a bases-loaded, no-out jam in the fifth inning to keep the Ephs in control.

The Ephs will look to build on the strong performance as they continue their spring break slate tomorrow against Oberlin College at 11:00am.
