Williams Splits Doubleheader Against Hamilton

AUBURNDALE, Fl. - The Williams College baseball team split a doubleheader with Hamilton College on their final day in Florida, falling 9-7 in game one before bouncing back for a 12-5 victory in game two.

After going 5-5 on their spring break trip in Florida, the Ephs are now 6-6 overall and 1-2 in NESCAC play.

Game One
Hamilton struck early, scoring four runs in the first inning to take immediate control. A two-run single highlighted the frame, while a balk and a bases-loaded walk helped the Continentals extend the lead to 4-0.

The Ephs answered in the second inning, as Quinn Carlesimo doubled to center field to drive in Ryan Nakajima before Hank Jacobus reached on an error that allowed Carlesimo to score, cutting the deficit to 4-2.

Hamilton added to its advantage in the third inning with a two-run single to make it 6-2, but Williams continued to respond. In the bottom half, Anthony Lods reached on an error that brought home Marcus Burrell II to trim the deficit to three.

The Continentals created separation in the fifth inning, scoring three runs, two coming on a single and another on a Williams error, to push the lead to 9-3.

Late in the game, Ben Swank scored on a wild pitch in the fifth before the Ephs posted a strong showing in the sixth. Anthony Lods launched a solo home run to left field, and Swank followed with a two-RBI single to bring Williams within two at 9-7.

Despite the late push, the Ephs were unable to complete the comeback as Hamilton held on for the win.

Game Two
Williams responded in game two with a strong offensive performance, earning a 12-5 victory to secure the split on the day.

The Ephs jumped out to an early lead in the first inning, as Nakajima singled to right field to drive in two runs before Carlesimo reached on an error that allowed two more runs to score, giving Williams an early 4-0 advantage.

Hamilton got on the board in the fourth inning with a two-run home run, but Williams answered immediately. Dave Mosrie delivered an RBI single before Oliver Rey and Burrell II each added sacrifice flies to extend the lead to 7-2.

The Continentals cut into the deficit with another two-run home run in the fifth, but the Ephs continued to battle. Carlesimo singled to bring home a run, and Swank followed with a sacrifice fly to push the lead to 9-4.

Hamilton added a run in the sixth on a wild pitch, but Williams put the game out of reach in the eighth inning, as Rey delivered an RBI single before Nakajima added a sacrifice fly and Will Scott drove in a run on a groundout to close the scoring at 12-5.

Williams returns to action on Tuesday, March 31st as they take on Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute at 3:30 p.m.
