LOS ANGELES, CA. – The Williams College softball team closed out its California trip with a doubleheader sweep over Occidental, taking game one 8-0 in five innings and game two 4-3 in extra-innings.
With the pair of wins, the Ephs move to 8-8 on the season and finish their spring break slate with a 7-7 record.
Game One
The Ephs opened the scoring in the first inning, as
Sidney Miller lifted a sacrifice fly to left field to bring home
Miya Fujimoto and take an early 1-0 lead.
Williams broke the game open in the third inning with a six-run outburst.
Dani Jackman started the rally with an RBI single before
Lauren Davis followed with another run-scoring hit up the middle.
Aprill Medrano delivered the big swing of the inning with a two-run double down the left field line, and Fujimoto added an RBI groundout to keep the line moving. Miller capped off the frame with an RBI single to extend the lead to 7-0.
The Ephs added one more in the fifth inning, as
Ayane Rokugawa reached on a single that allowed
Cassidy Chew to score and push the advantage to 8-0.
In the circle,
Sadie Leonard earned their sixth win of the season, allowing just one hit while striking out 11 over five innings.
Game Two
In game two, the Ephs battled back late to secure a 4-3 extra-inning victory and complete the doubleheader sweep.
Williams struck first in the opening inning, as
Haley Barrett singled to center field to bring home
Justine Dunaway and give the Ephs a 1-0 lead.
Occidental answered in the middle innings, scoring once in the third before adding two more in the fourth to take a 3-1 advantage.
The Ephs mounted their comeback in the seventh inning, as Jackman delivered a clutch triple through the right side, driving in two runs to even the score at 3-3 and force extra innings.
Williams completed the rally in the eighth, as Barrett came through once again with a double down the right field line to score Fujimoto and give the Ephs a 4-3 lead.
The Ephs held on in the bottom half to secure the win and finish off the sweep.
Williams returns from their spring break trip to take on Trinity College in their first NESCAC matchup of the season on Friday, April 3rd beginning at noon.
