WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. - Success is synonymous with the Williams College softball program.

The Ephs have qualified for three consecutive NCAA Division III Tournaments and won five of the last nine NESCAC Championships. The unit won back-to-back conference titles in 2016-17 and again in 2023-24, to go along with reaching the national stage in six straight years from 2014-19.

The 2026 ride for the No. 22-ranked Ephs begins on Saturday, March 7, with a doubleheader at Springfield, as game times are set for noon and 2 p.m. in Springfield, Massachusetts.

"We are excited for the season and to be the 40th Williams' softball team," said head coach Kris Herman. "We look forward to having a blast, seeing how good we can be and improving day by day."

Herman has compiled a sensational 881-449-5 record in her collegiate softball coaching career, which amounts to a .662 winning percentage. Her teams have reached the NCAA Tournament 19 times and won 13 NESCAC Championships. At Williams specifically, she has led the unit to 12 NCAA Tournaments and eight conference titles, while compiling a 542-285-2 overall record for a .655 winning percentage. The tremendous leader was inducted into the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Hall of Fame on Dec. 10, 2021.

The 2026 team features 12 returning student-athletes and five newcomers. The team will be led by senior captains Sadie Leonard and Alysa DeQuiroz, while Emma Kindblom returns for her fourth season as an assistant coach. Lauren Davis '28, Dani Jackman '28, Aprill Medrano '28, Sidney Miller '26, Justine Dunaway '27, Aleks Albert '28, Louisa Coughlin '26, Emily Borrazzo '27, Katie Blanch '27 and Natalie Carter '27 are the other returners. The first years include Miya Fujimoto, Ayane Rokugawa, Haley Barrett, Cassidy Chew and Annabella Rychetsky.

Leonard is a three-time NESCAC Pitcher of the Year and a three-time NFCA All-American, earning First Team honors in 2024 and 2025 and Second Team recognition in 2023. During the 2025 season, Leonard was named to the NFCA All-Region I First Team, while Blanch and DeQuiroz earned sports on the Second and Third Teams, respectively. Last year, Leonard was named to the NESCAC All-Conference First Team, while DeQuiroz and Blanch were honored on the Second Team.

"We have a balanced roster with four seniors leading the way," said Herman. "Co-captains Alysa DeQuiroz and Sadie Leonard are joined by classmates Louisa Coughlin and Sidney Miller to help guide the team, and our full roster of 17 student-athletes will have an impact on our success."

The Ephs' home opener is tentatively scheduled, pending field conditions and weather, for Saturday, March 14, with noon and 2 p.m. games against RPI on Cole Field. Williams will then embark on its annual West Coast spring break trip in California, playing 14 games from March 22-31.

The group will jump into NESCAC action immediately upon return to the Northeast, traveling to Trinity for a doubleheader starting at noon on Friday, April 3, in Hartford, Connecticut. The squad's first home conference doubleheader takes place on Saturday, April 11, against Bates at Cole Field, with game times set for noon and 2 p.m. The unit will host Little Three-rival Wesleyan in a doubleheader on Sunday, April 26, at noon and 2 p.m., and then travels to Amherst for games at noon and 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 2. In total, the Ephs are scheduled to compete in 38 regular season games, with 18 counting toward the NESCAC standings and 11 occurring on Cole Field.

"The NESCAC is once again a very strong league and we are excited to get to test ourselves each week in April after completing a very strong schedule before that," said Herman. "We are looking forward to getting started this weekend."
