Ephs battle in 13-9 loss to #5 Amherst on Senior Day

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. - The Williams College women's lacrosse team battled a tough Amherst College squad on Saturday afternoon at Farley-Lamb Field, with the #5 Mammoths coming away with a 13-XX win. A big second quarter from the visitors was the difference in an otherwise tight game, as the #19 Ephs fall to 9-4 on the season (5-3 NESCAC).

Team leading scorer Franny Donohue was again the team's top scorer on the day, scoring three goals and adding a game-high three assists. Paige Nelson and Sydney Puntus each scored twice, and Reece Willison and Katy McCullough had one goal apiece. Puntus and Ella Ryan also had assists, and Charlotte Cote made nine saves in goal for the Ephs.

The Ephs started the game on the front foot, going up 3-0 in the first eight minutes, and the first quarter ended with the home team up 3-1 after Amherst pulled a goal back with 6:27 to play in the quarter. The Mammoths took the lead in a second quarter in which they scored five goals without Williams being able to get on the board, and went into the break up 6-3.

The second half started with the visitors continuing their run, scoring the first four goals to extend the lead to 10-3 with 11:20 left in the third quarter, but the Ephs then started to chip away, and outscored Amherst 6-3 in the remainder of the game. The lead had been narrowed to 10-6 by the end of the third quarter, and the two teams each scored three goals in the final quarter to give the final score of 13-9.

The game was Senior Day for the Ephs, who celebrated the accomplishments and contributions of nine members of the class of 2026: Franny Donohue, Kiki Higgins, Paige Nelson, Meaghan Day, Anna Miller, Grace Rebak, Katy McCullough, Jade Lowe, and Lauren Morganlander.

Williams has just two games remaining in the regular season, visiting Wesleyan next Saturday and then hosting Middlebury on Wednesday, April 22, with the first round of the NESCAC tournament taking place on Saturday, April 25 at the site of each higher seed.
