WILLIAMSTOWN, MA. - The Williams College baseball team dropped a 24–7 decision to Amherst in the opener of a three-game NESCAC weekend series.
The Ephs now fall to 8-16 overall and 2-5 in conference play.
Amherst took control early, scoring 11 runs in the first inning and adding two more in the second to build a 13–0 lead.
Williams responded in the second, putting together a four-run inning. Will Scott drove in a run on a fielder's choice, Ben Swank added a two-run single, and Hank Jacobus followed with an RBI double to make it 13–4.
The Ephs continued to chip away in the third, as Dave Mosrie singled in a run, and Sasha Palma added a two-run double to cut the deficit to 13–7.
Amherst answered in the fourth with another big inning, scoring eight runs to extend its lead and put the game out of reach. The Mammoths added one more in the fifth to close out the scoring.
Swank led the Ephs with two RBIs, while Palma, Oliver Rey, and Ryan Nakajima each recorded two hits.
Williams will head to Amherst tomorrow for a doubleheader to close out the three-game NESCAC weekend series beginning at noon.
