Williams Splits Doubleheader with Middlebury

MIDDLEBURY, Vt. The Williams College baseball team split a doubleheader with Middlebury on Saturday, falling in game one before responding with a win in game two. 

The Ephs ultimately dropped their final NESCAC series of the season, falling to 11-20 overall and 4-8 in conference play.

Game One

In game one, Middlebury jumped out to an early lead with two runs in the first inning, using an RBI groundout and an RBI single to left center. The Panthers added another run in the second on a double play to extend the lead to 3–0.

Williams broke through in the sixth inning, as Will Scott came around to score on a balk to cut into the deficit.

Middlebury answered in the bottom half of the inning, adding two more runs on an RBI single and an RBI double to push the lead to 5–1, and take game one. 

Game Two

In game two, Williams rallied late in the ninth inning to earn a 7–6 comeback victory.

Middlebury took the lead in the second on an RBI double and added two more runs in the seventh to take 3–0 lead.

The Panthers continued to build their lead in the eighth, using a triple and a pair of sacrifice flies to make it 6–0 heading into the final inning.

The Ephs put together a late rally in the ninth inning, as Ryan Nakajima got things started with an RBI single before Dave Mosrie delivered a two-run triple to cut the deficit in half. 

Quinn Carlesimo followed with an RBI single, and Ben Swank added an RBI double to bring Williams within one.

Hank Jacobus reached on a throwing error that allowed two runs to score, completing the comeback and giving the Ephs a 7–6 victory to close out the weekend. 

Williams returns to action on Wednesday, April 29th as they close out their season with a non-conference game against MCLA beginning at 4:00 p.m.
