WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. - The No. 21-ranked Williams College men's tennis team went 15-1 in sets during a 7-0 triumph against No. 56 Colby Sunday afternoon at the Hunt Tennis Center.
Senior captains
Nicholas Chen and
Simon Volkema, along with sophomore
Carter Fayard and first-years
William Luke and
Anthony Lim, went 2-0, respectively, on the day. The Ephs (11-5, 7-3 NESCAC) won all three doubles matches to secure the one point. Chen and Volkema teamed up for a 6-4 victory at the top slot, while Luke and Fayard won by the same score at the second position. During No. 3 doubles, Lim and first-year
Matthew Yang earned a 6-2 win.
Volkema (6-4, 3-6, 10-7), Chen (6-2, 7-6), Luke (6-2, 6-3), Lim (6-4, 6-1), sophomore
Jack Ling (7-6, 6-3) and Fayard (6-1, 6-4) won at No. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 singles, respectively. Luke (11-4), Chen (11-5), Lim (10-4) and Ling (10-5) have achieved double-figure victories in singles competition this semester.
The Ephs earned the fourth seed in the NESCAC Tournament and will compete against fifth-seeded and No. 18 Amherst during the quarterfinals of the conference playoffs Friday at 9 a.m. from Wesleyan University in Middletown, Connecticut.
