Julia Zhang and first-year
Ayanna Varma of the No. 19-ranked Williams College women's tennis team emerged victorious during singles and doubles action Sunday, as the Ephs earned a hard-fought 4-3 victory at No. 44 Colby.
The Ephs (11-7, 5-5 NESCAC) won all three doubles matches to earn the one point. Junior
Ahn Lin and Zhang won at the top slot, 6-3, while first-year
Katelyn Wu and senior captain
Jane Ladaga posted a 7-5 victory at the second position. During No. 3 doubles, senior captain
Mia Thomann and Varma earned a 7-6 (7-2) triumph.
Varma (6-4, 6-2), Zhang (2-6, 6-3, 6-4) and sophomore
Ellie Stark (6-2, 6-0) won at No. 2, 3 and 6 singles, respectively. Varma (14-4), Zhang (12-5) and Ladaga (10-4) have all achieved double-figure victories in singles competition this semester.
The Ephs earned the sixth seed in the NESCAC Tournament and will take on third-seeded and No. 11 Middlebury in the quarterfinals of the conference playoffs Friday at 1 p.m. in Middlebury, Vermont.
