MIDDLEBURY, Vt. - The sixth-seeded and No. 22-ranked Williams College women's tennis team suffered a 4-0 setback at third-seeded and No. 12 Middlebury during the NESCACÂ Quarterfinals at the Outdoor Tennis Courts.
The Panthers (13-5, 8-2 NESCAC) earned the one point in doubles competition. Lulu Wu and Ananya Annapantula won by a score of 6-2 at the second slot, and then Ren Barton and Diya Pachamuthu prevailed, 6-3, at the third slot. Elsie Van Wieren (6-0, 6-1), Pachamuthu (6-1, 6-2) and Charlotte McCann (6-0, 6-2) won at the first, fifth and sixth singles positions, respectively, to secure the victory for Amherst. The Panthers will take on second-seeded and No. 11 Bowdoin during the conference semifinals Saturday at 11 a.m. in Middlebury, Vermont.
The Ephs (11-8, 5-5 NESCAC) will learn about their NCAA prospects during the Division III Women's Tennis Selection Show on Monday at noon. This season, Williams defeated then-No. 16 Swarthmore and No. 18 Case Western Reserve by the identical score of 5-2 on March 28 and 21, respectively. Senior captain
