Williams Falls to Skidmore in Home Opener

WILLIAMSTOWN, MA - The Williams College baseball team dropped its home opener to Skidmore College, 8-3, on Wednesday afternoon.

Skidmore opened the scoring in the third inning with a sacrifice fly before adding to its lead in the fifth. The Thoroughbreds capitalized on a series of opportunities, plating four runs in the inning, several unearned, to extend the advantage to 5-0.

Skidmore continued to add on in the sixth and seventh innings, pushing the lead to 7-0.

Williams broke through in the seventh inning as Hank Jacobus delivered an RBI single to bring home Mason Nagle before Sasha Palma drew a bases-loaded walk to score another run and cut the deficit to 7-2.

The Thoroughbreds responded in the eighth with an RBI single to extend the lead to 8-2.

The Ephs added a run in the ninth inning, as Nagle drew a bases-loaded walk to score Palma, but Williams was unable to complete the comeback as Skidmore held on for the 8-3 victory.

Anthony Lods paced the Ephs with a perfect 3-for-3 day at the plate, adding a walk, while Ryan Nakajima, Lucas Asanovic, and Jacobus each contributed a hit.

Williams will look to bounce back on Friday as they head to Wesleyan University to open a three-game NESCAC series.
