WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — Five Williams College women's golfers were selected as All-American Scholars by the Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA), more than any other school in the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC). The quintet that was chosen were senior Euna Lee, juniors Emma Abramson and Natalie Cheong, sophomore Michelle Ding and first-year Zoe Wynn.
A total of 1,551 golfers from every level of the NCAA and the NAIA earned the distinction. In order to qualify for selection a student-athlete must have an overall cumulative grade point average of 3.50 or higher, be an amateur and on the team's roster through the conclusion of the team's season, and have played in 50 percent of the college's regularly scheduled competitive rounds during the year nominated through the team's conference championship.
Lee, a psychology major ranked 17th in the nation with the Ephs' top stroke average of 72.5 over 24 rounds, hails from Irvine, California, and is just the seventh player in program history to earn this honor four times. She finished off a terrific collegiate career by earning a spot on the WGCA All-America Second Team, making the WGCA All-Region team for a fourth consecutive year, garnering NESCAC Golfer of the Year honors for a second straight year and playing her way to All-NESCAC First Team honors for a third straight season. As a first-year, she was the conference Rookie of the Year and a All-NESCAC Second Team selection as well.
A native of Sandwich, Massachusetts, Abramson is an economics and psychology major who picked up this honor for the third straight year. She recorded a 77.4 stroke average over 14 rounds with er best finish coming at the Polar Bear Shootout where she finished tied for 18th in a field of 86 players.
A Chinese and psychology major ranked 22nd nationally from Las Vegas, Nevada, Cheong received this honor for the third time in her three years on the squad and joined Lee on the WGCA All-America Second Team this spring with a stroke average of 72.8 in 24 rounds. She also received All-East Region and All-NESCAC First Team honors for the second straight year.
Ding is an economics major from Toronto, Ontario, and averaged 74.6 over 24 rounds for Williams. The economics major is ranked 45th nationally and also provided her best performance at the Polar Bear Shootout where she tied for second overall. At the NESCAC Championship in April, she placed fourth to lead the Ephs and was named to the All-NESCAC Second Team.
Just a rookie, Wynn established herself quickly and recorded a 74.9 stroke average over 24 rounds during the year. Like Lee, she is from Irvine, California, and finished the year ranked 59th nationally. Twice Wynn finished among the top five in a tournament, and then tied for 10th at the NESCAC Championship.
