HARTFORD, Conn. — Junior forward Lorcan Mitchell continued to deliver in the clutch for the 10th-ranked Williams College men's soccer team, as he netted the game-winning goal during the 66th minute in a 2-1 victory at NESCAC-opponent Trinity Saturday afternoon.

Sixth-year head coach Steffen Siebert, who has guided the Ephs to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Division III Tournament in three of the last four years, earned his 50th career victory at Williams. He powered the 2022 team to the national championship game.

"It was an amazing come-from-behind win and I could not be prouder of the team," said Siebert. "We have played three games this year and won all three second halves, which will give us lots of momentum going forward that we can always find a way to win a game. I am excited to be back on Cole Field Tuesday against a great Gordon team."

Mitchell has buried all three game-winning tallies this season for the Ephs (3-0-0, 3-0-0 NESCAC), as he now has seven in his collegiate career. Junior goalkeeper Kai Darrell improved to 3-0-0 on the season, making three stops, as Williams overcame a 1-0 second-half deficit to the Bantams (2-2-0, 0-2-0 NESCAC). The Ephs have won 12 consecutive games against Trinity, dating back to the 2014 season.

Neither team was able to find the back of the net in the first half, and then Jack Murphy scored the game's first goal for Trinity during the 50th minute off a corner kick by Matt McLeod.

Williams pulled even at 1-1 in the 57th minute, as sophomore defender Jake Farmer placed a long throw-in inside the 18-yard box in the Bantams' defensive zone. First-year defender Finn Convery elevated and was able to get a head on the ball, and then sophomore midfielder Kai Desmangles popped up a shot toward the right post. A Trinity defender deflected the ball into the back of the net, as the sequence was scored as an own goal.

The Ephs' second goal also came by way of a throw-in from Farmer into the 18-yard box. This time, junior forward Alex Bethencourt fired a shot from straight on that was denied by Bantam goalkeeper Jake Davis. Mitchell cleaned up the rebound with 24:36 remaining in the second half from deep in the box to secure the 2-1 victory for the visitors.

Trinity led in total shots, 15-10, while each team put four shots on target. The Bantams attempted nine corner kicks, while Williams was awarded six.

The Ephs compete against Gordon Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. on Cole Field.
