Ephs Compete in Day 1 at ITA New England Regional

MIDDLEBURY, Vt. — After winning matches during the Round of 32 and 64 in the A Singles Draw Friday, sophomore Anthony Lim of the Williams College men's tennis team will compete in the Round of 16 Saturday at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) New England Regional on the campus of Middlebury College.

"It was great to see our guys back on the court and competing hard," said 18th-year head coach Dan Greenberg '08. "We definitely were not 100 percent today, but we felt like we hung tough against top competition. I am excited for Anthony to keep battling tomorrow and for the rest of the team to keep climbing these next few weeks."

Lim defeated senior Pierce Garbett of Brandeis in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4, during the Round of 64. The Atherton, California, native emerged victorious against first-year Hayden Williams of Middlebury, 7-6 (7-3), 6-4, in the Round of 32.

Lim also teamed up with sophomore Matthew Yang for an 8-0 triumph over junior Terrance Bayly-Henshaw and sophomore Stephen Hartigan of Norwich during the Round of 64 in the Doubles Draw. Sophomore William Luke did not lose a single game in his Round of 64 match in the A Singles Draw, outlasting Hartigan of Norwich, 6-0, 6-0.

Lim will compete against sophomore Ryuto Saito of Wesleyan in a best-of-three set, Round of 16 match Saturday at 11 a.m. The winner will advance to the quarterfinal round at 2 p.m.
