BRUNSWICK, Maine — After two rounds of the Bowdoin Invitational, Williams first-year Charles Nevin is tied for 12th in the 88-player field with a 75-72—147 (+3) to lead the Ephs to a tie for 10th along with Amherst at 27-over par (603). Tufts holds a one-stroke lead over New York University with a 12-over 588 with 18 holes still to play.
Nevin provided the low score in each round on Saturday at the 6,601-yard, par-72 course at Brunswick Golf Club, besting three of his teammates by a single stroke in the opening round with his 75 (+3). His first round included 13 pars and a birdie, and in the afternoon, he sank three more birdies and 12 pars to shoot even par and remain at 3-over for the two rounds.
A pair of sophomores, Owen Barber and Nick Smith, carded identical scores of 76-75—151 (+7), leaving them in a tie for 33rd, though Smith sank five birdies over his 36 holes and Barber four.
In the opening round, senior Alex Moller contributed a 4-over 76 to help Williams finish the round at 15-over par (303). It was Moller's classmate, Owen Nielsen, who shook off a slow start to the second round to contribute a 6-over 78 to the team score of 300 (+12) in the second round. The Eph who sank the most birdies over the two rounds was sophomore Aydin Aly Ajani, playing as an individual, with six to his credit as he finished the day with a 13-over 157.
Tanmay Chandra sits atop the leaderboard with a 5-under 139, three strokes ahead of Southern Maine's Will Farschon and Trinity's Charlie Mullin.
The tournament wraps up on Sunday with the third and final round teeing off with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m.
